This is the centerpiece of East Forest and Peter Broderick’s collaboration, written right in the middle of their one-week recording residency in The Burren (County Clare, Ireland). This piece explores what it means to be in the middle of something, of anything. Sometimes a hopeful place but sometimes an equally uncomfortable and/or unwelcome one, being in the middle can be like purgatory, and this piece indulges in that, sinking into that zone and dwelling there for a while. It’s the only piece on the album which dives overtly into the world of electronic music, highlighting East Forest’s adventurous production. It also features one of the most elaborate
string arrangements on the album, recorded by Broderick deep into the middle of the night. The singing voices of the two artists can be heard varyingly taking the lead on this song, making it the only piece on the album which revolves around their two voices equally.
