On their last day together, just before packing up after a blissful week of creative explosion in the west of Ireland, East Forest and Peter Broderick sat down to play one last piece of parting music together. With the intention of creating something to bookend the diverse array of songs that had come before, the two spontaneously improvised this piece, centered around East Forest’s gentle, plaintive piano and Broderick’s violin, manipulated in real time by a variety of pedals. Both artists agreed it felt like the perfect farewell. ’Slán’ is the Irish word for ‘Goodbye’.
